Our Organizational Background

As the principal Sacco for workers of Bata Shoe Company (K) Ltd., employees of partner companies who collaborate with Bata Shoe Company, employees of corporate entities, and Kiatu Sacco Society Limited (Kiatu Sacco) employees. The Sacco was established on July 4, 1978. The main purpose of the Sacco’s registration was to guarantee the membership’s thrift, enabling them to mobilize funds and obtain credit at reasonable rates. The SACCO is registered under the Cooperative Societies Act (Cap 490). After the SACCO Societies Act 2008 (Cap 490B) was enacted, the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) was created to oversee deposit-taking Sacco Societies (DT-SACCOs) and carry out the Act’s obligations. As of right now, the Sacco has a non-WDT Sacco license from SASRA in Kenya. The SACCO is providing its services predominantly within the Bata company in Limuru and its environs, though it is making advances into other sectors.

Officials chosen by the members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) oversee the Sacco. The Sacco has five full-time staff that manage the organization’s daily activities. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / CEO leads the workforce, while the Chairperson leads the membership. The Board of Directors, an entity tasked with formulating policy on behalf of its members, is led by a chairperson. In addition, the Sacco has a Supervisory Committee comprised of three individuals chosen by the membership, whose job it is to make sure the Board of Directors acts in compliance with laws and in the members’ best interests.

In order to enhance its offerings, the SACCO acknowledges that technology plays a crucial role in facilitating outreach and service delivery. The SACCO had suggested, during the preceding strategic period, that the current Core Banking System (CBS) be replaced with a safe, integrated, fully functional CBS that could manage the augmented operations and implement mobile banking.
